3 steps

How to book this ride

1

Open MonteGO at the belt

Set Tivat Airport as the pickup. Type the hotel, an address, or choose Budva Old Town or Budva bus station as the destination.

2

Meet the driver outside arrivals

The app shows the car and plate. Tivat's pickup area is a few steps from the terminal exit, so you are in the car quickly even at peak times.

3

Over the hill and down to the sea

The road climbs out of the Tivat plain, drops past Jaz beach and enters Budva along the coast. Pay the driver on arrival.

Meeting your driver at Tivat Airport

Tivat Airport is small: one terminal, one arrivals exit, taxis right outside. When you confirm the ride, the driver heads to the arrivals pickup and the app tells you the car, its colour and the plate. There is no need to look for a sign or a desk. If you land in the evening wave, when several charters arrive within an hour, the driver may be a couple of minutes out; the map shows the car coming.

Data is useful but not required: the terminal Wi-Fi is enough to book. The chat translates instantly, so a short 'I'm outside arrivals with two cases' in your language reaches the driver in theirs.

The road from Tivat Airport to Budva

The car leaves the airport plain and climbs the ridge that separates the Tivat bay from the open coast, through the villages of the Grbalj valley. Near the top the road turns towards the sea and descends with Jaz beach on the right, a long open beach that hosts concerts in summer, then meets the coast road and enters Budva from the north. It is a proper drive rather than a hop, with the sea appearing in the last third.

In July and August the final stretch along Budva's coast road slows to a crawl in the evening and on changeover Saturdays. Drivers know the side streets and the timing; if you are heading to the far end of Budva towards Bečići, mention it so the driver plans the approach. Outside high season the whole ride is quiet and the road is in good condition.

Where a taxi can drop you in Budva

Budva's Old Town is walled and pedestrian, and the seafront promenade is closed to cars, so the drop-off point depends on where you are staying. From MonteGO rides on this route, these are the usual stops:

  • Budva Old Town

Taxis stop at the edge of the walls, by the marina side or the bus stop on Mediteranska. From there it is a short walk through the gate into the lanes. Tell the driver which gate if your host gave you one.

  • Slovenska obala and the marina

The main beach promenade and the small-boat marina in front of the Old Town. Cars can reach the road behind the promenade; the driver stops at the closest point to your building.

  • Avala Resort & Villas, Iberostar Slavija, Merit Starlit

The big hotels around the Old Town and along the seafront all have forecourts or a marked stopping point. Give the hotel name and the driver knows the entrance.

  • Mediteranska and the centre

The main street through the modern centre, with many apartment buildings. The taxi drops you at the door or the nearest corner where stopping is allowed.

  • Budva bus station

For coaches on to Bar, Ulcinj, Cetinje or Podgorica. It sits on the inland edge of the centre and is a common first stop for travellers connecting onwards.

Late flights, luggage and families

This is the route with the most late-night rides from Tivat. Charters land past midnight all summer, and a taxi to Budva at one or two in the morning is completely routine for MonteGO drivers. The road is quiet at that hour and the ride is quicker than by day. If you want to land without thinking, schedule the pickup for your arrival time when you book your flight; the driver sees the request in advance.

A standard car takes two large suitcases plus hand luggage. For a family with more, or a group of five or six, pick the larger vehicle option when booking and one car does the job. Child seats are not standard in Montenegrin taxis; add a note when you book and drivers who carry one will pick the request up.

Other ways from Tivat Airport to Budva

There is no direct airport bus. Local buses between Tivat and Budva leave from the town bus station, not the terminal, so you would first need to get there; with luggage that rarely makes sense. Pre-booked transfer companies meet you with a sign at a price set in advance and suit people who like that certainty. A rental car is only worth it if you plan to explore beyond the coast, because parking in Budva in summer is a daily struggle.

For most visitors staying in Budva, a licensed taxi booked in the app is the straightforward choice: no desk, no argument about the price at the door, a known driver and a receipt.

Return trip

Budva to Tivat Airport: the ride back

The return is the same road in reverse, and the only thing to plan is the pickup point. Set it to your hotel entrance, the corner nearest your apartment, or the bus stop by the Old Town, and step out when the app shows the car a minute away. On summer Saturdays and in the evening rush the coast road out of Budva is slow; give yourself margin and schedule the ride in the app the night before.

Tivat is a small airport with quick check-in, so the road is the only variable. Drivers on this route do the run many times a day and will tell you in the chat if they want to pick you up a little earlier because of traffic.

  • Pickup at the hotel door or the Old Town bus stop
  • Schedule the airport ride the evening before
  • Add margin on summer Saturdays and in the evening
