Podgorica Airport taxi & transfers

Podgorica Airport sits on the plain at Golubovci, south of the capital, and it is the airport people use for the city, Skadar Lake, the far south of the coast and the mountains. It is also the airport where new arrivals most often overpay at the terminal door. This page explains the pickup, the connectivity, the night flights and the ride back, and lists every destination that has its own route page from TGD.

How do I get a taxi at Podgorica Airport?

Book a MonteGO taxi in the app with Podgorica Airport as pickup and your hotel, the bus station or a coastal town as destination. A licensed driver accepts, the app shows the car and plate, and you meet on the forecourt outside arrivals. The ride is booked before you reach the door, so there is no price conversation with the taxis parked there. You pay the driver at the end, cash or card.

  • Booked in the app, not negotiated at the door
  • Driver, car and plate visible before you walk out
  • Terminal Wi-Fi is enough; no local SIM needed
  • Schedule the pickup up to 10 days ahead

How to book this ride

1

Install and log in at home

Register on home Wi-Fi, not in the arrivals hall. If you know your landing time, schedule the pickup now and the driver is already assigned when you land.

2

Land, connect, confirm

Terminal Wi-Fi or roaming, then Podgorica Airport as pickup and your destination by name: a hotel, the bus station, or a town on the coast. Confirm and watch the car approach.

3

Walk out to the plate

Exit arrivals, match the plate to the app, load the luggage. Pay the driver at the end, in cash or by card; the receipt stays in the app.

The terminal at Golubovci

Podgorica Airport is the country's main airport by passenger numbers, but it is still a compact, single-terminal building. Arrivals and departures share the same hall on different sides, baggage reclaim is a short walk from the aircraft, and the exit opens onto a forecourt with a car park and a taxi line directly in front. The airport is at Golubovci, on the flat land south of the city, with the road north to Podgorica on one side and the roads to the coast and to Skadar Lake on the other.

Facilities are basic: a café, a couple of car-rental counters, an ATM, an exchange desk. There is no rail link and no scheduled public bus from the terminal that is worth planning around, and the airport shuttle that has existed on and off over the years cannot be relied on for a specific flight. For most arrivals, leaving TGD means a car.

Where the MonteGO pickup is

When you confirm a ride with Podgorica Airport as the pickup, the driver comes to the forecourt outside arrivals and the app shows the car, colour and plate. Step out, walk past the taxi line, and match the plate to the one in the app; the live map shows where the car is if it has not yet arrived. The in-app chat translates instantly, so 'at the exit, two suitcases' in your own language is enough.

The taxi line at the door is the one thing to know about Podgorica Airport. The cars parked there work on their own terms, and the price quoted to a tired arrival with no local knowledge is frequently a multiple of what the ride should be. With MonteGO the ride is already booked, the driver is identified by plate, and there is nothing to discuss on the pavement. Do not follow anyone who approaches you inside the hall offering a taxi; your driver is the plate in the app, nobody else.

  • Meeting the car

Forecourt outside arrivals. The app shows the plate and the live position; message the driver if you are unsure where to stand.

  • Delayed flight

A scheduled pickup follows the time you set. If the flight slips, move the pickup time in the app or message the driver; booking on landing sidesteps the issue.

  • Booking for someone else

Add the passenger's name and phone number in the ride note so the driver can reach them directly through the app.

Wi-Fi, SIM cards and paying

The terminal Wi-Fi is free and sufficient to open the app and confirm a ride. Montenegro is outside the EU roaming zone, so a plan from further away may not include data here; an eSIM or the terminal Wi-Fi covers the booking, and you do not need a Montenegrin SIM. Install and log in to MonteGO at home so the only thing left to do on landing is press confirm.

You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, in cash or by card on the driver's terminal. There is no card charge in the app and no booking fee, and the receipt appears in the app. The currency is the euro.

Night flights, summer peaks and winter

Podgorica runs year-round, and a large share of its flights arrive late in the evening or in the small hours: the low-cost rotations from across Europe and the flights from the region are often timed that way. MonteGO drivers work the airport around the clock, and a ride to the city or down to the coast at two in the morning is a normal request, not a special one. If you would rather not think about it half-asleep, schedule the pickup for your landing time when you book the flight.

In summer the airport is busy from morning to night, and on peak Saturdays several flights land within the same hour. Cars are matched in order, so booking the moment you have a signal, or scheduling ahead, is the difference between walking straight to a car and waiting on the forecourt.

Winter is quieter but not empty; Podgorica keeps its year-round schedule while Tivat thins out. Coverage at the airport continues, and a scheduled pickup for a January arrival means a driver is already on the way when you land.

Luggage, groups and child seats

A standard MonteGO car takes two large suitcases and hand luggage. For a family with more, ski or hiking gear on the way to Kolašin, or a group of five or more heading to the coast, choose the larger vehicle option when you book so one car takes everyone. Long rides from TGD to Budva, Bar or Ulcinj are exactly the trips where a single comfortable vehicle matters.

Child seats are not standard in Montenegrin taxis. If you travel with a small child, write it in the ride note; drivers who carry a seat pick up the request, and the chat lets you confirm before the car leaves.

Departures: the ride back to Podgorica Airport

The ride back can be planned, which makes it the easy one. Schedule the airport ride in the app the evening before, or up to ten days ahead, with the pickup time and the exact spot: the hotel door in Podgorica, a street corner in Budva, the bus station, or the lobby of a resort in Bečići. The driver sees scheduled rides in advance and is waiting when you come down.

Drop-off is on the forecourt in front of the terminal, as close to the doors as traffic allows. Check-in at Podgorica is quick, but the road is the part to respect: add margin for a morning departure from the coast in July and August, when the road from Budva over the hills is at its slowest, and for anything coming from Bar or Ulcinj along the coast.

  • Schedule it the evening before

Or up to 10 days ahead, with the pickup time and the exact spot where you will wait.

  • Pick a spot where a car can stop

The hotel door in Podgorica, a street corner in Budva, the bus station, the lobby of a resort.

  • Add margin on summer mornings

The road from Budva over the hills and the coast road from Bar and Ulcinj are at their slowest in July and August.

Other ways out of Podgorica Airport

An honest comparison. The door taxis are the fastest thing to get into and the easiest to overpay for; if you use one, agree the price before the car moves. Pre-booked transfer companies meet you with a sign at a fixed price and are a fine choice if you like that certainty; MonteGO adds the driver, car and plate in the app, booking on landing, and a receipt and rating afterwards. Car rental makes sense if you are heading into the mountains or touring the country; for the coast it means parking problems in every old town. The occasional airport shuttle into Podgorica is cheap when it runs, but it cannot be planned around, and there is nothing similar to the coast.

For most arrivals, whether staying in the capital or continuing to Budva, Bar or Ulcinj, a licensed taxi booked in the app is the simplest option: no counter, no sign, no argument on the pavement, and the car waiting when you walk out.

FAQ

Common questions

Yes, taxis park in front of the terminal, but they work on their own terms and the price is agreed at the door, often to the disadvantage of new arrivals. With MonteGO the ride is booked in the app before you walk out, you see the driver, car and plate in advance, and the trip is on record with a receipt.

No. The free terminal Wi-Fi is enough to open the app and confirm. Install and log in to MonteGO before you fly and the only thing left to do on landing is confirm the pickup.

Yes. Schedule the pickup in the app up to 10 days ahead for your landing time. The driver sees the request in advance and is on the forecourt when you walk out. If the flight is delayed, move the time in the app or message the driver.

An airport shuttle has run on and off over the years, but it cannot be relied on for a specific flight and there is nothing comparable to the coast. For most arrivals a taxi booked in the app or a pre-booked transfer is the practical option.

Yes. Many flights into TGD land late in the evening or after midnight, and MonteGO drivers work the airport around the clock. For a very late arrival, schedule the pickup when you book the flight so a car is already assigned.

Yes. Both are routine transfers with a route page of their own on this site. Budva is the common choice from TGD; for Kotor and the bay, Tivat Airport is closer if you have the option, but the ride from Podgorica is straightforward and can be scheduled in advance.

You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, in cash or by card on the driver's terminal. There is no card charge in the app and no booking fee.
