Getting out of TGD

Podgorica Airport handles a fraction of the traffic of a major European hub, and it shows in the best way: arrivals is one hall, and the exit is directly in front of you. There is a taxi rank immediately outside, a small car-rental row, and a car park.

What there is not, is a dedicated airport bus. The railway halt near the airport is served infrequently and is not a realistic plan with luggage. In practice everyone leaves by car.

What is the cheapest transfer from TGD?

For a solo traveller heading into Podgorica, the honest answer is that the gap between options is small, because the distance is small. A city ride typically costs €10–15, and there is no meaningfully cheaper door-to-door alternative.

For the coast the maths changes completely, because you are looking at an hour of driving. Two things reduce the cost without landing you at a bus station at midnight:

• Share the car, not the seat

  The fare is for the vehicle, not per person. Four people to Budva in one car is dramatically cheaper per head than four separate arrangements.

• Use the offer system for long transfers

  Intercity runs are not on a fixed tariff. You name a price, nearby drivers respond within minutes, and you choose on rating and vehicle. The agreed price is fixed before the trip starts.

• Coach from Podgorica bus station

  Genuinely the cheapest way to the coast if you are travelling light. It means a ride into the city first, then a coach — realistically two to three hours in total.

From TGD to the coast

The road from Podgorica to the sea climbs over the karst and drops down to the Adriatic. It is a good road and a genuinely beautiful drive, but it is an hour of real driving, not a hop.

Booking your TGD pickup in advance

Scheduling matters more at Podgorica than at a large hub, because the rank thins out around late-evening and early-morning arrivals. Rides can be booked up to 10 days ahead in the app.

Set the pickup for about 30 minutes after the scheduled landing. TGD clears passengers quickly, but a single wide-body arrival can fill the passport queue. If the flight is delayed, change the time in the app and the assigned driver is notified rather than leaving.

• Name your terminal exit, not just 'airport'

  TGD is small enough that this is rarely a problem, but a pin on the arrivals door removes any doubt for a driver arriving in a queue of cars.

• Book the van for four or more

  Especially heading to the coast: an hour in a full saloon with suitcases on laps is a bad start to a holiday.

• Pay by card or cash

  Both work in the app. Street taxis are inconsistent on card, and the airport's cash machines have queues exactly when you are in a rush.

Late arrivals and early departures

Montenegro's flight schedule is heavily seasonal. In summer, TGD handles arrivals well into the evening; in winter the last flights land early and the airport empties fast.

For any departure before 7am, schedule the ride the day before at the latest. This is the single most common transport failure visitors report anywhere, and it is entirely avoidable with two minutes in an app.
