Tivat Airport taxi & transfers
Tivat is the airport for the Bay of Kotor and the Budva Riviera: one small terminal, one arrivals door, and a taxi pickup a few steps outside it. This page is the complete picture of leaving TIV by taxi with MonteGO, from the moment the seatbelt sign goes off to the ride back for your flight home, plus every destination we have written a dedicated route page for.

How do I get a taxi at Tivat Airport?
Open the MonteGO app after landing, set Tivat Airport as the pickup and your hotel or town as the destination, and confirm. A licensed local driver accepts, the app shows the car, colour and plate, and you meet outside the single arrivals exit. There is no counter, no sign and no negotiation at the door; you pay the driver at the end, cash or card.
- One terminal, one arrivals exit, pickup right outside
- Driver, car and plate shown before you walk out
- Works on terminal Wi-Fi; no Montenegrin SIM needed
- Schedule the pickup up to 10 days ahead
How to book this ride
Install and log in before you fly
Five minutes on home Wi-Fi saves the arrivals-hall queue. Add your flight's landing time as a scheduled pickup if you like to have it settled, or book on landing.
Land, connect, confirm
Terminal Wi-Fi or roaming is enough. Set Tivat Airport as pickup, type the hotel or town, confirm. The app shows the car that is coming and where it is.
Walk out, find the plate, go
Exit the terminal, match the plate to the app, load the luggage and leave. The receipt stays in the app; you pay the driver directly when you arrive.
Taxi routes from Tivat Airport
One page per ride, written from real MonteGO trips: where the pickup is, what the road is like, where a taxi can actually stop at the other end, and how to book the trip back.
The terminal, in one paragraph
Tivat Airport is small in the best way. There is one passenger terminal, arrivals and departures share the same building, and the walk from the aircraft to the exit is a matter of minutes even when two charters land together. Baggage comes to a couple of belts in the same hall as passport control, and the arrivals exit opens straight onto the forecourt where taxis, transfer minibuses and rental shuttles all wait. You cannot get lost, and you cannot miss the pickup area: it is the pavement in front of you when the doors slide open.
What the airport lacks is almost everything else. There is a small café, a couple of car-rental desks, an ATM and an exchange counter, and that is the list. There is no useful public bus into the towns, no rail link, and no hotel shuttle unless your resort sends one. For nearly everyone who lands here, leaving the airport means a car, and the only question is which one.
Where the MonteGO pickup is
When you confirm a ride with Tivat Airport as the pickup, the driver comes to the arrivals forecourt and the app tells you the car, its colour and the plate number. Step out of the terminal, look along the pavement, match the plate, and that is your driver. If the car has not arrived yet, the map shows exactly where it is; the in-app chat translates both ways, so a quick 'I am at the exit, blue suitcase' in your own language is understood instantly.
Because the forecourt is small, drivers cannot always wait in the first row for long. If the app shows the car a short walk further along the road, that is normal on a busy summer afternoon, not a problem. Never follow anyone who approaches you inside the terminal offering a taxi: MonteGO drivers do not come inside, and the plate in the app is the only thing that identifies your ride.
Meeting the car
Arrivals exit, then the pavement in front of it. The app shows the plate and the live position of the car.
If your flight is delayed
A scheduled pickup follows the time you set, not the flight, so message the driver through the app or move the pickup time before you take off. Booking on landing avoids the question entirely.
Meeting someone who is not you
Booking for a family member or a guest? Put their name and phone number in the ride note; the driver can contact them directly through the app.
Wi-Fi, SIM cards and paying
The terminal Wi-Fi is free and enough to open the app and confirm a ride. Roaming from EU countries works normally; travellers from further away should know that Montenegro is outside the EU roaming zone, so a home data plan may not include it. An eSIM activated on the plane, or simply the terminal Wi-Fi, solves it; you do not need a Montenegrin SIM card, and there is no need to buy one at the airport to book a taxi.
There is no card charge in the app and no booking fee. You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, in cash or by card on the driver's terminal, and the receipt appears in the app. Montenegro uses the euro, so if you arrive from a eurozone country there is nothing to change.
Summer charters, night flights and winter
Tivat is a seasonal airport. From May to October the schedule fills with charters and low-cost flights from across Europe, and several of them land late in the evening or after midnight. The forecourt at one in the morning is quiet, but it is not empty: MonteGO drivers work the airport around the clock through the season, and a ride to Kotor or Budva at that hour is a routine request. If the thought of booking half-asleep worries you, schedule the pickup for your landing time when you book the flight, and land with a car already assigned.
The busiest moments are Saturday changeover days in July and August, when several aircraft arrive within an hour of each other. Cars are matched in order, so booking as soon as you have a signal, or scheduling ahead, is the difference between walking straight to a car and waiting on the pavement.
In winter the airport runs a much thinner timetable and the forecourt can look deserted between flights. Coverage does not disappear, but a scheduled pickup is the sensible choice for a January arrival so a driver is already on the way when you land.
Luggage, groups and child seats
A standard MonteGO car takes two large suitcases and hand luggage without drama. For a family with more, sports equipment, or a group of five or more, choose the larger vehicle option when you book so the right car comes and nobody has to split into two taxis. Luštica Bay, Porto Montenegro and the Budva resorts all receive plenty of guests with serious luggage, and the drivers who work the airport are used to it.
Child seats are not standard in Montenegrin taxis. If you travel with a small child, write it in the ride note when you book; drivers who carry a seat pick up the request, and the chat lets you confirm before the car leaves the rank.
Departures: the ride back to Tivat Airport
The way back is easier than the way in, because you can plan it. Schedule the airport ride in the app the evening before, or up to ten days ahead, choosing the pickup time and the exact spot where you will wait. In Kotor that means a gate or the bus station, not inside the walls; in Budva a street corner rather than a pedestrian lane; at a resort, the lobby door. The driver sees scheduled rides in advance and is waiting when you come down.
The departures drop-off is the same forecourt in front of the terminal; the driver stops as close to the doors as the traffic allows. Tivat check-in is fast because the airport is small, but the road is the part you cannot control: add margin on cruise days in Kotor, on summer Saturdays, and whenever your route runs along the bay road through Tivat and Lepetane.

Other ways out of Tivat Airport
An honest comparison, because a taxi is not the answer for everyone. Pre-booked transfer companies meet you with a sign at a price agreed in advance, and they are a fine choice if you value that ritual; the difference with MonteGO is that you see the driver, the car and the plate in the app, can book on landing, and keep a receipt and a rating. Car rental at TIV makes sense if you plan to drive around the country; for a week in Kotor or Budva a car is a burden, since the Old Towns have no parking and the bay road has almost none in summer. Public transport is the one option that does not really exist: the local bus runs from Tivat town, not the airport, so with luggage it is rarely worth the walk.
For most people staying anywhere on the coast, a licensed taxi booked in the app is the simplest option: no counter, no sign, no cash argument, and the car is waiting when you walk out.
Common questions
Yes, taxis wait on the forecourt outside arrivals, but they work on their own terms and you agree the price at the door. With MonteGO the ride is booked in the app before you walk out, you see the driver, car and plate in advance, and the trip is on record with a receipt at the end.
No. The free terminal Wi-Fi is enough to open the app and confirm the ride. It is easier still if you install and log in to MonteGO before you fly and use roaming or an eSIM on landing.
Yes. Schedule the pickup in the app up to 10 days ahead for your landing time. The driver sees the request in advance and is on the forecourt when you walk out. If the flight is delayed, move the time in the app or message the driver.
There is no useful public bus from the airport itself. Local buses run from Tivat town, which means a walk with luggage, and they do not go into the Old Towns. For nearly all arrivals a taxi or a pre-booked transfer is the practical option.
Yes. MonteGO drivers work the airport around the clock through the season, and late charters are a normal part of the summer timetable. For a very late or very early arrival, schedule the pickup when you book the flight so a car is already assigned.
You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, in cash or by card on the driver's terminal. There is no card charge in the app and no booking fee.
Tivat. TIV sits inside the Bay of Kotor and on the direct road to Budva, so it is the right airport for everything between Herceg Novi and Petrovac. Podgorica Airport is the choice for the capital, Skadar Lake, Bar and Ulcinj.
