Can you book a taxi in advance in Montenegro?
Short answer: yes, and it is the single easiest way to remove the one thing that reliably goes wrong on a Montenegro trip — the 5am ride to the airport that nobody arranged.

Can I book a taxi in advance in Montenegro?
Yes. With the MonteGO app you can schedule a taxi in Montenegro up to 10 days in advance, for any city and both airports. You set the pickup point, date and time, see the estimated fare before confirming, and a licensed driver is assigned ahead of the pickup window. No phone calls, no deposit, and no cash-only surprise at the door.

How far ahead you can book
MonteGO's scheduling window is 10 days. That covers the two cases that actually matter to visitors: booking your departure transfer the moment you arrive, and booking the whole trip's transfers from home before you fly.
A scheduled ride is not a request that sits unanswered. You pick the address, the date and the time, and confirm at the price shown. Closer to the pickup, the ride is matched to a licensed driver nearby, and you get their name, vehicle, plate and live position in the app — the same tracking as an on-demand ride.
Set the exact pickup point
A hotel entrance, an apartment address, a marina berth or an airport terminal. Montenegrin addresses can be vague, so dropping the pin exactly where you will be standing is worth the extra ten seconds.
Choose the vehicle class
Standard for one or two people with cabin bags, Comfort for more space, Van when you are four or more with full-size suitcases. Book the van if in doubt: a family of four with luggage does not fit a standard saloon.
Confirm at the shown price
The estimate appears before you commit. Scheduling does not add a booking fee, and there is no separate 'airport surcharge' applied afterwards.
When booking ahead actually matters
For a midday ride across Budva or Podgorica, you rarely need to plan: request when you want to leave and a car is usually minutes away. Advance booking earns its keep in five specific situations.
Early-morning departures
Anything before 7am. Fewer drivers are online at 4:30am, and this is the ride you cannot afford to miss. Schedule it the night you arrive, not the night before you leave.
Peak season on the coast
July and August in Budva, Kotor and Tivat. Demand spikes, the coast road slows to a crawl, and a pre-assigned driver skips the wait entirely.
Remote or awkward pickups
Mountain accommodation around Kolašin and Durmitor, villages above the Bay of Kotor, or an apartment on a lane a car cannot enter. Scheduling gives the driver time to plan the approach.
Groups and heavy luggage
Four or more passengers need a van, and vans are a smaller part of the fleet. Booking ahead reserves the right vehicle instead of gambling on what turns up.
Ferry and cruise connections
The Kamenari–Lepetane ferry and cruise calls at Kotor run to fixed times you cannot renegotiate.
How early should you book an airport transfer?
There is no benefit to booking earlier than you need, because the fare does not rise as the date approaches. Book when the plan is firm.
| Situation | Book this far ahead | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Departure before 7am | 1–3 days | Thinnest driver coverage of the day |
| July–August, coast | 1–2 days | Peak demand in Budva, Kotor and Tivat |
| Group of 4+ or a van | 2–3 days | Larger vehicles are a smaller part of the fleet |
| Mountain or rural pickup | 1–2 days | Longer approach, fewer cars nearby |
| Daytime city ride | Not needed | On-demand is usually a few minutes away |
Arrivals: booking a pickup for a flight that lands
Pickups from Podgorica Airport (TGD) and Tivat Airport (TIV) are the most common scheduled rides on the platform, and the one place where a delay is normal rather than exceptional.
Schedule the pickup for roughly 30 minutes after the scheduled landing on an international arrival — enough for passport control and bags at two small airports where both move quickly. If the flight is delayed, update the ride time in the app; the assigned driver is notified rather than leaving without you.
Podgorica Airport (TGD)
12 km from the city centre, about 15 minutes. Podgorica city rides usually run €10–15. Down to the coast is a real journey: Budva is 63 km and roughly 55 minutes.
Tivat Airport (TIV)
The coastal airport, and much closer to where most visitors sleep. Kotor is 10 km and about 15 minutes; Budva is 20 km and about 25 minutes.
Advance app booking vs the alternatives
The taxi rank is fine in the middle of the day when you can see the meter and there is a queue of licensed cars. It is a poor plan for a dawn departure, for a group, or anywhere outside the main towns.
| Scheduled in the app | Taxi rank on arrival | Hotel front desk | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price known before the ride | Yes, on screen | Varies; agree it first | Usually quoted, often higher |
| Available at 5am | Yes, if scheduled | Unreliable | Depends on staffing |
| Driver details in advance | Name, vehicle, plate | No | Sometimes |
| Live tracking | Yes | No | No |
| Card payment | Yes | Often cash only | Added to the room |
| Shareable trip link | Yes | No | No |
Paying for a scheduled ride
You pay after the ride, not at booking, and no deposit is held. Card and cash are both accepted, which matters more than it sounds: card acceptance is inconsistent in Montenegrin street taxis, and cash machines at both airports have queues at exactly the moments you are in a hurry.
Intercity transfers work differently and in your favour. Rather than a fixed tariff, you name your price, nearby drivers respond within minutes, and you pick one on rating and vehicle. The agreed price is fixed before the trip starts.
Common questions
Yes. The MonteGO app schedules rides up to 10 days ahead in every city it covers, including pickups from Podgorica Airport (TGD) and Tivat Airport (TIV). You set the pickup point, date and time, and confirm at the estimated fare shown before booking.
One to three days is enough in almost every case. Book at the earlier end for departures before 7am, for groups needing a van, and for July and August on the coast. Booking further ahead does not change the price.
No. There is no deposit and no prepayment. You pay at the end of the ride by card or in cash, at the fare agreed when you booked.
Update the pickup time in the app and the assigned driver is notified. Because the ride is tracked against your booking rather than a fixed slot, a delayed arrival does not mean losing the transfer.
Yes, and it is free before a driver has been assigned to the ride. Cancel in the app as soon as plans change so the driver is not sent on a wasted trip.
No. Scheduling adds no booking fee and no airport surcharge. The estimate you see when scheduling is the same basis as an on-demand ride for the same route.
Yes. Download the app and register with a phone number or email before you travel, then schedule the arrival pickup once your flight is confirmed. Nothing about booking requires a local SIM or a Montenegrin bank card.
