How do I get from Podgorica Airport to Budva?

Book a MonteGO taxi with Podgorica Airport as pickup and your Budva hotel, the Old Town or the bus station as destination. A licensed driver meets you at the terminal and takes either the road over Cetinje down to Budva or the Sozina tunnel to the coast and north along the sea, depending on traffic and the season. Pay the driver at the end, cash or card.

  • Booked in the app: no negotiating a long ride at the door
  • Two roads, both scenic; the driver picks the quicker one that day
  • Drop-off at the Old Town edge, Slovenska obala or your hotel
  • Schedule the return to TGD in the app

3 steps

How to book this ride

1

Book at the belt

Pickup Podgorica Airport; destination your Budva hotel, the Old Town or the bus station. Confirm.

2

Meet the car outside the terminal

The app shows the car and plate; the pickup is directly outside arrivals.

3

Over the mountains to the sea

Via Cetinje or the Sozina tunnel and the coast road. Pay the driver on arrival in Budva.

Pickup at Podgorica Airport

The taxi pickup is directly outside the terminal, beside the car park. When you confirm the ride the app shows the car, colour and plate. Terminal Wi-Fi is enough to book. Because this is a longer ride, it is worth writing your exact hotel or street in Budva when you book rather than just 'Budva': the driver plans the approach into town from the moment you get in.

Two roads from Podgorica to Budva

The classic route goes west from the plain and climbs to Cetinje, the old royal capital in its mountain bowl, then over the pass and down the long series of bends to the coast with Budva spread out below. It is the more dramatic road, with the sea appearing all at once at the top of the descent, and in good conditions it is the direct way.

The other route heads south, through the Sozina tunnel under the mountains to the coast near Sutomore, then north along the sea through Petrovac and past Sveti Stefan into Budva. It is longer but flatter and faster when the Cetinje road is busy or in winter weather. MonteGO drivers choose on the day; if you have a preference, or you want the mountain views, say so in the chat and they will oblige when it makes sense.

In July and August the last stretch into Budva along the coast road is the slow part whichever way you come, particularly in the evening and on changeover Saturdays.

Where a taxi drops you in Budva

Budva's Old Town is walled and pedestrian, and the seafront promenade is closed to traffic. From MonteGO rides on this route:

  • Budva Old Town

The taxi stops at the edge of the walls, by the marina side or the bus stop on Mediteranska, and you walk in through the gate. Tell the driver which gate if your host named one.

  • Budva bus station

On the inland edge of the centre, for coaches on to Kotor, Tivat, Bar or back to the capital. A common first stop for people connecting onwards.

  • Slovenska obala and the marina

The main promenade and the small-boat harbour in front of the Old Town. Cars reach the road behind; the driver stops at the nearest point.

  • The seafront hotels

Avala, Iberostar Slavija, Merit Starlit and the others along the front all have forecourts or marked stopping points. Give the name.

  • Mediteranska and the modern centre

The main street through the centre with many apartment buildings; the taxi drops you at the door.

Night flights, luggage and families

Podgorica has night arrivals all year and MonteGO drivers cover the airport around the clock. The mountain road at night is quiet and the tunnel road is lit; either is routine for drivers. Scheduling the pickup for your landing time when you book the flight means you land with a car already assigned. A standard car takes two large cases; choose the larger vehicle for more or for five or more people. Child seats are not standard; add a note when booking.

Other ways from Podgorica Airport to Budva

Coaches run from Podgorica bus station to Budva throughout the day, so one option is a taxi to the station and a coach onward; it is cheaper but slower and involves handling bags twice. There is no bus from the airport itself. Pre-booked transfers meet you with a sign. A rental car is a good choice if you plan to tour the country, a poor one if you are staying put in Budva, where parking in summer is a daily struggle. For a direct arrival, a licensed taxi booked in the app is the simplest.

Return trip

Budva to Podgorica Airport

Set the pickup to your hotel or the Old Town bus stop and step out when the app shows the car close. The driver chooses the mountain road or the tunnel depending on the morning. Schedule the ride in the app the evening before and give yourself proper margin: this is a real drive, and on summer Saturdays the coast road out of Budva is slow before you even reach the mountains. Podgorica's terminal is small and check-in is quick once you are there.

  • Pickup at your hotel or the Old Town bus stop
  • Schedule it the evening before
  • Generous margin: this is a mountain crossing
