Tivat Airport to Herceg Novi by taxi

Herceg Novi sits at the mouth of the bay, and between it and Tivat lies the water. That gives this ride a choice most airport transfers do not have: the short car ferry across the Verige strait, or the long road all the way round the inner bay through Kotor and Perast. Here is how MonteGO drivers do it, and where they can drop you when you arrive.

How do I get from Tivat Airport to Herceg Novi?

Book a MonteGO taxi with Tivat Airport as pickup and your Herceg Novi hotel or address as destination. A licensed driver meets you at arrivals and normally takes the Lepetane–Kamenari car ferry across the bay, then the coast road through Kumbor and Meljine into Herceg Novi. You stay in the car on the ferry. Pay the driver at the end, cash or card.

  • The ferry is part of the ride: you do not get out
  • Drop-off in the Old Town, Igalo, Meljine, Kumbor or Portonovi
  • The bay road round is the alternative when the ferry queue is long
  • Schedule the airport return in the app

3 steps

How to book this ride

1

Book at the belt

Pickup Tivat Airport; destination your hotel, Herceg Novi Old Town, Igalo or your street. Confirm.

2

Meet the car outside arrivals

The app shows the car and plate. The pickup area is at the terminal door.

3

Ferry or bay road, then the coast into town

The driver takes the Kamenari ferry or the road round, depending on the queue. Pay on arrival.

Pickup at Tivat Airport

Tivat's small terminal has the taxi pickup right outside arrivals. When the driver accepts, the app shows the car, colour and plate. Terminal Wi-Fi is enough to book. Because this ride involves a ferry, it helps to mention in the booking whether you have a firm arrival time to meet, so the driver can decide between the crossing and the road round before you set off.

Ferry or the road round the bay

From the airport the taxi heads north along the Tivat shore to Lepetane, where the car ferry crosses the narrowest point of the bay to Kamenari in a few minutes. The ferry runs continuously through the day and into the night, and cars simply queue and drive on; you stay in the taxi. On the far side the road follows the outer bay through Bijela, Kumbor and Meljine into Herceg Novi. This is the usual way and the one most drivers take.

The alternative is the road all the way round the inner bay: through the Vrmac tunnel, past Kotor, along Dobrota to Perast and Risan, then out through Morinj to Kamenari and on to Herceg Novi. It is much longer but it is one of the most beautiful drives in the country, and some visitors ask for it on purpose. Drivers also use it on August afternoons when the ferry queue stretches back up the hill.

Where taxis stop in Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is built on a steep hillside with the Old Town in the middle, and the coast road running below it. From MonteGO rides:

  • Herceg Novi Old Town

Pedestrian and stepped. Taxis drop you at the top by the clock tower square and the bus station side, or at the bottom on the seafront road, whichever is nearer your accommodation. Ask your host which.

  • Igalo

The spa suburb west of the town, with the big Institute and many apartments along the shore. The taxi takes you to the door.

  • Meljine and Kumbor

The villages east along the outer bay, passed on the way in from the ferry. Apartments and small hotels on the water; give the house name or street.

  • Portonovi and Bijela

The marina resort at Kumbor and the shipyard village next to it. Portonovi has a gate and forecourt; the driver knows it.

  • Herceg Novi bus station

Above the Old Town on the main road, for coaches on to Dubrovnik or Kotor.

Luggage, steps and late arrivals

Herceg Novi is a town of stairs. The taxi gets you to the road nearest your accommodation; ask your host about the steps from there if you have heavy bags. A standard car takes two large cases; select the larger vehicle for more or for a bigger group. The ferry runs late into the night, and MonteGO drivers cover late Tivat landings; a night crossing with the bay dark on both sides is a fine way to arrive.

Other ways from Tivat Airport to Herceg Novi

Coaches run from Tivat bus station to Herceg Novi, using the same ferry, but not from the airport and not to flight times, so you would need a taxi to the station first. Pre-booked transfers meet you with a sign. A rental car makes the ferry queue your problem and parking in Herceg Novi is scarce. For most visitors a licensed taxi booked in the app, ferry included, is the simplest arrival.

Return trip

Herceg Novi to Tivat Airport

Set the pickup to your hotel or the road nearest your apartment, at the top or the bottom of the Old Town as appropriate, and be there when the app shows the car close. The driver takes the ferry or the road round depending on the queue that morning. Schedule the ride in the app the evening before and allow real margin in July and August, when the ferry line at Kamenari is the one variable nobody controls. Tivat check-in is quick once you are there.

  • Pickup at the road nearest your accommodation
  • Schedule it the evening before
  • Generous margin in summer for the ferry queue
