Podgorica Airport to Kotor by taxi
Flying into Podgorica for a stay in Kotor means the longest of the classic airport rides: across the mountains to the coast, along the riviera and over the ridge into the Bay of Kotor. It is a genuinely beautiful drive and a simple one to book. Here is how the MonteGO pickup works, what the road is like, and where the taxi can leave you at the walled town.

How to book this ride
Book at the belt
Pickup Podgorica Airport; destination Kotor Old Town, a gate, or your house name in Dobrota or the bay. Confirm.
Meet the car at the terminal
The app shows the car and plate; the pickup is outside arrivals.
Mountains, coast, then the bay
Over Cetinje or through the tunnel, along the riviera, over the ridge into Kotor. Pay on arrival.
Pickup at Podgorica Airport
The taxi pickup is directly outside the terminal beside the car park, and the app shows the car, colour and plate as soon as the driver accepts. Terminal Wi-Fi is enough to book. For a ride this long, write the exact destination: 'Kotor Old Town, River Gate' or the house name in Dobrota. The driver plans the last part from the start.
The road from Podgorica to Kotor
The first part is the crossing to the coast, by one of two roads: over Cetinje and down the bends to Budva, or through the Sozina tunnel and north along the sea. From Budva the road climbs over the ridge behind the town through the Grbalj valley, crests above the bay and descends the hairpins into Kotor with the whole inner bay opening below, one of the finest approaches to any town in the Adriatic. Drivers choose the crossing on the day and you can ask for the mountain road in the chat if you want the views.
In July and August the Budva stretch and the last descent into Kotor can be slow, and on cruise days the waterfront by the port crawls from late morning. The driver knows the timing; if you are staying in Dobrota, Muo or Prčanj rather than in the walls, say so, because the driver can then avoid the town-centre knot altogether.
Where a taxi can drop you in Kotor
Kotor's walled town is pedestrian. Taxis stop at the gates or in the neighbourhoods around it. From MonteGO rides:
Sea Gate (Main Gate)
Facing the port and cruise pier; nearest the main square and cathedral. Busy on cruise days.
River Gate (North Gate)
By the Škurda river and the old market; the quiet entrance, best for the northern half of the Old Town.
Gurdić Gate (South Gate)
At the southern tip by the fortress climb; for the south side and the Škaljari road.
Kotor bus station
For onward coaches to Herceg Novi, Dubrovnik or Tivat; a short walk from the walls.
Dobrota, Muo and Škaljari
The shore and hillside neighbourhoods where most Kotor apartments actually are. Give the house name; drivers know them.
Night flights, luggage and families
Podgorica has night arrivals year round and MonteGO drivers cover them; the mountain road and the tunnel are both routine after dark. Schedule the pickup for your landing time and the driver is assigned before you land. A standard car takes two large cases; choose the larger vehicle for more or for five or more people. Child seats are not standard; add a note when booking.
Other ways from Podgorica Airport to Kotor
Coaches run from Podgorica bus station to Kotor several times a day, so a taxi to the station and a coach onward is possible; it is cheaper, slower, and means handling bags twice. There is no bus from the airport itself. Pre-booked transfers meet you with a sign. A rental car is useful for touring but a burden in Kotor, where the Old Town has no parking and the bay road has almost none in summer. For a direct arrival, a licensed taxi booked in the app is the simplest.
Kotor to Podgorica Airport
Set the pickup to a gate, the bus station or your street in Dobrota, and be at the road when the app shows the car close; drivers cannot wait inside the walls. Schedule the ride in the app the evening before and allow generous margin: this is the longest of the airport rides and in summer both the bay road and the Budva stretch can be slow before the mountains. The terminal at Podgorica is small and check-in is quick once you are there.
- Pickup at a gate, the bus station or your street
- Schedule it the evening before
